Plan International UK is an independent development and humanitarian charity that advances children’s rights and equality for girls. Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children. We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 80 years, and are now active in more than 70 countries. By 2022 we want to help 100 million girls learn, lead, decide and thrive.
The Policy and Programmes Directorate supports our aims by ensuring that we deliver the highest quality policy and programmes. We constantly enhance programme quality and effectiveness, raise income from institutional donors and drive change through setting and influencing policy agendas.
This is an exciting opportunity to help develop and drive forward an influential advocacy strategy for Plan International UK’s work to ensure the rights and needs of adolescent girls in humanitarian and protracted crises are addressed.
As Policy and Advocacy Adviser you will develop and implement effective influencing strategies towards the UK Government and other actors. You will build and manage influential advocacy and policy relationships with Government, NGOs, networks and partners, further establishing Plan International UK as a credible voice on humanitarian policy issues. You will work with programmes, policy, communications and other colleagues to develop and deliver a cross organisational influencing strategy focussing on girls in crisis contexts. Supporting Plan’s country office teams to develop policy and advocacy strategies in response to crises will be a key part of this, ensuring girls rights and needs are met.
You will bring extensive humanitarian policy and advocacy experience on thematic and country specific humanitarian issues. You will have previously worked with country teams on the delivery of policy and advocacy strategies in humanitarian / protracted crises settings, including significant time spent in a crisis-affected country in an advocacy role. You will have proven experience of policy analysis and writing policy and advocacy briefings on humanitarian policy and gender equality, and a clear understanding of international aid and humanitarian sector architecture, with the ability to analyse trends.
The deadline for applications is 9:00am on Monday 20 August 2018
