Plan International UK is a leader in the development of the global disasters work of Plan. Our Disaster Risk Management Unit (DRMU) supports our country offices to design and deliver quality programmes, assisting with the development of strong donor relationships, and providing technical support for humanitarian work.

This will include:

  • Ensuring appropriate and quality humanitarian programmes delivered to a high standard in a timely way in line with Plan Disaster Risk management strategy and donor requirements
  • Development and management of a portfolio of programmes
  • Identification of new business opportunities which contribute to overall objectives and business plan
  • Providing appropriate technical support to team members and country offices in compliance with good practice
  • Building strong relationships across the organisation and in particular with country offices’ staff
  • Fostering external relationships through participation in relevant networking events, donor meetings, etc.
  • Keeping abreast of current trends and developments in the sector ensuring key findings are shared in the team and integrated programming.

You will have significant experience of designing and implementing disasters projects and/or DRR programming with a particular focus on Education; of winning funding and overseeing projects from major humanitarian donors and an understanding of institutional donors’ requirements and operating styles. With a track record of humanitarian field work and working in challenging and stressful / high risk environments, you will be able to establish strong working relationships with colleagues from different functions and cultures. As the role has a focus on education in emergencies, you will have a good understanding of the mechanisms and the international legal / policy framework related to this topic, along with two or more of the sectors in which we work: Health, Education, Shelter, Water and Sanitation, Livelihood, Food security, Nutrition, Protection, Sexual, Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS and DRR.

The role is based in London and will involve travel for 30% of the time to Country Offices. Fluency in English and French or Spanish is essential.
