Position Description
The post is Head of Disaster Risk Management and you’ll be in the Programmes department. The Disaster Risk Management unit (DRMU) is a centre of excellence within the Plan network. As head of this team, you will lead a team of two Programme Managers and a disaster risk reduction and resilience adviser to secure grants and build our reputation as an effective humanitarian response partner within the UK sector, particularly within the DEC where you will be required to represent us at the highest level, deputising for the Director of Programmes or the CEO, where necessary.
This will involve driving and guiding the unit toward increased growth, enhanced quality of our programmes and uniform and reliable delivery mechanisms at field level.
Required Experience
The role requires a full understanding and knowledge of the current humanitarian international architecture and policy debates and proven ability to formulate, represent and influence policy. This will be demonstrated by the post holder’s ability to identify and convert opportunities into programme realities whilst developing and leveraging our particular expertise within the humanitarian sector. There is considerable scope for the right person to develop the role and the Unit in the next few years. In addition the role will need to effectively communicate and predict directions and trends to inform, guide, influence strategy and operational delivery within Plan UK and across Plan’s global network. You’ll need to have the credibility to represent Plan UK externally and you should be confident and articulate enough to present to the media - significant media and public speaking experience of media would be very valuable.
Salary and Benefits
Grade 1 post within a pay band from £55,395 to £58,236.
Our annual leave entitlement starts at 25 days (plus public holidays) for new starters. It goes up to 30 once you’ve been with us for 5 years.
We match contributions up to 7.5% on the pension scheme and will automatically enrol anyone who has not elected to join the scheme in the third pay period of their employment, currently at a rate of 1% contributions for you and for Plan.
