Plan International UK is looking for a Programme Specialist with expertise in both humanitarian aid and disaster risk reduction to join the Disaster Risk Management Unit (DRMU).
Plan International UK is a global children’s charity. We work to give every child the same chance in life. The Disaster Risk Management Unit (DRMU) works across the whole spectrum of disaster work from risk reduction, emergency response through to recovery, working in collaboration with many of the major NGOs in consortia and as a DEC and START Network member, dealing with rapid response, disaster risk reduction, and conflict sensitivity.
As a DRMU Programme Specialist, you will be responsible for:
- Supporting our country offices in quality programme development and delivery, assisting with the development of strong donor relationships and providing technical support for humanitarian and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) work
· Supporting the development of Plan International UK’s humanitarian and DRR portfolio, including programming that addresses disaster risk and strengthens community resilience
· Developing and managing a significant part of Plan International UK’s disasters grants portfolio
· Raising our profile as a humanitarian actor
You will identify opportunities and calls for proposals, support Country Offices in developing and submitting high quality proposals and negotiate and approve contracts. You will also monitor all aspects of project progress, e.g. via close communication with project staff and field trips. You’ll act as a resource for the international organisation, providing support to disaster response on a deployment basis if required. You will spend approximately 30% of your time in Country Offices.
As well as the required experience, we are looking for someone who has great communication and collaborative working skills and whose values and goals are genuinely aligned with ours. Some experience/knowledge of Child Protection in Emergencies would be an advantage but additional training in this area will be given if needed.
The deadline for applications is 9:00 am on 9 March 2020.
Interviews will take place on 16/17 March 2020.
Due to the nature of our work with children and young people, we follow rigorous child safeguarding policies and procedures in our recruitment process. As a result, some of our roles are subject to an Enhanced Disclosure by the Disclosure and Barring Service. A criminal record will not necessarily bar you from joining us as an employee or volunteer; this will depend on the circumstances of any offences.
